Finding The Right Wholesale Supplier For Your Home Business

`Product sourcing research for wholesale suppliers can either make or break your home based business. There are a lot of companies willing to sell to your small home business that even have contracts out with larger companies but finding them is critical if you stand to compete in the internets speedy market.

Most people look through search engines and web directories trying to find a supplier or dealer of goods they can sell that will actually compete and all they get is a list full of middle men and scams. Fact is, those companies just do not have a budget to advertise their business to the little guy like you. This is why it seems like it is impossible to try and find a really good supplier with products that people want at competitive prices.

Your problem could be that you have been told how easy it is to operate an online retail store when in fact, real work is real work and there is no easy road or fast dollar that doesn’t come with a consequence. Some people try and target only drop shipping suppliers when in reality you can get even better prices and be more competitive if you just take the not so easy road and stock your own inventory by buying in bulk. Bulk wholesale suppliers can offer you a lot better price that you can compete with than any drop shipping supplier can.

People always ask me why they can find their product from another vendor for sale for almost the amount they are buying it for. They are being middled out of real profits, plain and simple. Not only do you have to find a real supplier, you really should consider buying from a bulk wholesaler. You’re probably thinking, “I don’t have a thousand dollars to make a minimum purchase from a bulk supplier!” I know of a lot of real bulk suppliers who have already agreed to do business with your small home based business and sell bulk orders to you with no minimum order.

If you really want to do business online and have this dream about having extra money on the side then you need to realize that it is actually a lot of work dealing with product sourcing, market research, product and site advertising, getting a legal business entity established (no real wholesale supplier will even do business without you being legal tax paying business), building and operating a website, and not to mention stocking an inventory. If you have the time and patience for what goes into running a legal home business and want to get started on the right foot then read more about what real product sourcing and market research is all about. For those of you who think you have a really good product but do not know how to promote it read my recent article about market research linked at bottom.

Product Not Selling?

Let me guess, you have created a website or an auction list with a product or even an array of products and they are barely making you enough money to pay your hosting and advertising fees.

If that is true then what you will read next is going to end your stress and probably save your business.

Often people come to me and ask me why their products are not selling and tell me about the great prices they are giving or the great deals they are getting and need answers as to what it is they are missing. It is surprisingly common these days for people who are trying to use the internet to make a little extra money on the side to fall into this helpless hole.

What they have failed to do is called: Market Research!

Think in terms of keywords, say you have a deal on some car parts and that is what you want to sell then you need to adjust to the narrow category. You would need to think of your category for each part. Let’s say for your Chevy Head Gaskets you would categorize that item like this: Cars>Parts>Chevy>Head Gasket. Then you would want to look at all the other dealers selling Chevy Head Gaskets and get a feel for their prices. If you cannot beat or match those prices then you will have to consider Product Sourcing and find something new to sell. Sell what sells, don’t try to only sell things you know about or like.

There are also a lot of other factors that have to be tested as well. Time is one of them! There are certain products that sell very well late in the night and if that is what you are selling and you have your auctions closed during the night or have links to your website from websites that don’t get many hits at night then that could be one problem you are having. Not just night and day either; think about days of the week. Most restaurants are packed on the weekends and you have to call and make a reservation just to get in the door but I bet you could walk in on Tuesday night get seated instantly and have the food in front of you inside of fifteen minutes.

Your research should tell you not only how well the product is selling but how it is sold too. All things of the same types listed in the same category sell differently if you narrow it down even further. This difference helps to target the buyers where your competition may have failed to do so.

If you are like me though and you do not have countless hours to spend surfing around looking at products, pricing, and sells statistics there is a great tool that can automate this process for you and it has saved you a lot of time. It is called the Market Research Wizard and it can give you response on categories and products in a matter of seconds. This software is available for download as a Free Trial from my site.

Never fear though, it is a business you are running, not a get rich quick scheme that never works; a business is something that is work. Through trial and error you will learn just like the experts have and one day you will have it all down to a science. Research is work but when you are doing this work over the internet with search engines available and auction searches available it really isn’t all that hard. Once you get the ball rolling you will start to see your product in a new light and that will spawn new ideas. You may even stumble upon a product that will sell good for you.

Create A Nice Income Working From Home

If you are like 80 % of the population you have either dreamed of working for yourself or actually tried some home based business opportunities at one time.

If you have tried working from home I commend you, even if your efforts were not successful at least you tried. I hope you do not give up. There are many ways to earn extra income from home. Unfortunately there are many scams out there promising you big money working from home.

If you have been burned by one of these so called get rich schemes I understand your reluctance to dive into another opportunity anytime soon. And those of you who have only dreamed of working from home but have not taken the first step because you do not know where to start, I understand your frustration as well.

First of all don’t get discouraged if you have tried and failed, I don’t mean to use an over worked cliché, but remember that Thomas Edison failed numerous times while trying to invent the light bulb. Just think if he gave up you might be reading this by candlelight. And it would not be on a computer, it would be scribbled on a piece of paper in pencil.

Make sure to learn from your mistakes, and go on. There are legitimate home-based businesses out there. I would recommend you stay away from the get rich quick schemes. A business takes effort as well as some investment in time and money.

Make sure you have a budget of funds and time available to put into your business. And stick to it.

Do some research in the opportunity you are interested in , don’t get roped into acting right away. Give it some thought and know whom you are dealing with. In other words CHECK IT OUT!!

I have tried some different opportunities over the years, some worked, some still are working for me, but some of them failed miserably. But I learned from my mistakes and kept on going and I am glad I did. I have made some good friends along the way who have helped me, and I have also made some money.

One of my favorite businesses is my Mystery Shopping Business. Here is a business that I work when I want, I pick the assignments I want, I never have to accept a shop I don’t want. I am an independent contractor for several companies, I have had many fee meals, hotel stays, car washes, visits to amusement parks, free coffees just to name a few perks. Besides getting all that for free, I also get paid for the shopping. This is a great way to make some extra cash and get tax deductions for the gas I use for the shops along with mileage expenses, and other business deductions.

I use this money as seed money to invest in other business ventures. It is an excellent way to raise the money it sometimes take to get things started in some other ventures. We sometimes wish we had a few extra bucks to try a small business venture and here is a great way to get that money without taking it away from our household budget.

Drop Shipping Supplier Or Bulk Wholesale Supplier?

If you are looking to expand your drop shipping business or trying to decide what is best for your new home based business then you may want to consider the differences between using a drop shipping supplier versus a bulk wholesale supplier.

Drop shipping suppliers are nice and easy because you do not have to carry any inventory yourself, you don’t have to worry with packing products and shipping them out to your customers, and you can order as few or as many times as you wish. I have always had a few problems with drop shipping services though. Imagine your customer places an order from you off your website or wins an auction of yours. You exchange money and then call your supplier and tell them to send that product to your customer, with rush shipping, and they tell you that they do not have that product in stock. Imagine your customer calls you talking about broken parts, defective electronics, or a box that has been slightly crushed and you call your supplier about it and they tell you that they can only warranty products packed and shipped in bulk. These are only some of the problems I have had with drop shipping suppliers, however, most of the time they can make business a little easier.

A bulk wholesale supplier can really give you an edge, especially on ebay. These suppliers can offer you a lot better prices than anyone else which can make your products have a very competitive price in your market. These products are fully backed with warranties and guarantees, direct from the factory. This is the way to go if you really want your home business to increase in size and sales. It is more work but it is worth it in the long run. One problem many home businesses have is that they do not have enough thousands of dollars to purchase the minimum quantity order for bigger products. Getting a loan to carry against these products can be risky in a lot of ways. I recommend using Worldwide Brands Light Bulk Wholesale Supplier Directory because it is a list of real bulk wholesale suppliers who have already agreed to do business with your small home business and sell bulk products to you with no minimum order. A link to this directory can be found by clicking the product sourcing menu on my website. In my experience, buying in bulk is the best route for any home business ready to expand or just starting out.

No matter which you choose to do, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. If you really want to increase sales and customer service compliance then you need to consider buying in bulk like the rest of the heavy weight sellers and be in competition with them instead of with the millions of the little guys.

The Importance of Followup in a Home Based Business

As someone who’s been involved a number of years full time in a home business I’ve heard it said over and over again the expression “The fortune is in the followup!”

While not disbelieving this statement it always seemed like another one of those stupid cliches Used by your network marketing upline to motivate their people when nothing else was working (Mainly because they were in a deal who’s opportunity had come and gone). Yes Virginia just like stocks and investments the opportunity to make real money in a home based business opportunity has a window that opens and closes (usually for good in terms of making financial freedom type money). However, for the learned there are plenty of opportunities to do extremely well. However, that’s the topic for another discussion.

Followup in a home based business or any business for that matter is physiological as much as anything else.

Consistent followup accomplishes several important things.

First every follow-up re-enforces in your prospects mind the validity of your product and/or business. Remember virtually all prospects are skeptical the first time they hear about a product. With each additional exposure a prospect becomes more comfortable with trying your product. Especially when the product is presented in a neutral or favorable light. Depending upon the type of marketing many experts claim a person must be exposed at least 5 times to a product before they will purchase. The least personal the exposure the more exposures required.

Second – virtually everyone and everything is in a constant state of change over time Each new followup puts your message in a front of a potentially new set of circumstances with your prospect. What wasn’t important 30 or 60 days ago could today become forefront in your prospects mind overnight.

Last, but not least is the physiological aspect of follow-up. Each time you followup with a prospect in a home based business you’re in effect telling them your product really works.

Reason being most people are skeptical anyway and subconsciously think if they never hear from you again after your initial contact that your product wasn’t very good. On the other had the opposite is true – each time they hear back from you they subconsciously think. “Gee there must really be something to your product or he/she wouldn’t keep contacting me.”

Now let me say one last thing about following up with your prospects and being persistent.

There is being persistent and there is being a pest. You can be persistent without being a pest. You never want to be a pest. Here is how you can be persistent without appearing to be a pest.

When following up with someone – never just email or say to them, “I was just checking with you to see if you’ve had a chance to go over the information I sent you previously.” This is being a bore and a pest.

Whenever you followup with someone always have some new piece of information to present to them about your product, etc. You want to be like a poker player, always keep a trump card to play. Never expose everything you have at first – with your first contact. Always keep several pieces of information about your product or business for exposure later. Of course you’re in the cat bird’s seat if you’re fortunate enough to be marketing a product or service that’s hot and consistently in the news. Conversely it’s a little tougher to come up with new information when you’re marketing a non-news making product.

Work At Home: Finally!

You can't have a better feeling until you finally start to see all of your hard work start to pay off. There was a time when I started to believe that there wasn't going to be any benefits to working at home. However, the first dollars coming in were a godsend. Not only did it feel great that you can work at home, it gave me an extra little boost I needed to make sure I was going to be able to continue to work at home.

The funny part of it is you could make fifty dollars or fifty cents, it's all a result of your effort and pushes you in the right direction. I remember I was considering if earning money from working at home was something I really could achieve. Then, one day I earned a profit, then the next day I earned more. All of a sudden, things kept rolling. It was a great feeling I will never forget.

I always wondered why I would see business owners framing their "first dollar." Now I know why, it is a great motivator as well as a reminder of all the hard work and effort that a business requires. I would highly recommend keeping proof of the first dollars that come your way. Put it somewhere where you and others can see it. I actually kept it as well to show off to people who doubted that I could work at home and still have continued success!

When you do say that word, "Finally," I promise you working at home only gets better if you continue to work hard and stay focused. Best wishes!

Work At Home: Stay Focused

One of the biggest problems I had when I started to work at home was staying on track. It became difficult for me to focus entirely on my online business directory. It wasn't even as if I was playing video games or watching television. I was finding other opportunities online and was interested in pursuing them as well.

Before I knew it, I was working on six different endeavors. I was working hard with my business, but I was devoting much of my time to working on these other "projects". The problem became I wasn't devoting all of my time to my original business. If you have started a business before, I am sure you understand the need for every hour in the day and probably an extra two or three. Your business can take up your entire day.

I have no problem with working on other projects. As a matter of fact, many entrepreneurs will tell you that always working and moving on to different projects is a quality of many successful leaders. I agree completely. You just have to make sure you are putting your energy and efforts towards your main project so you can get it off and running first to become successful. You don't want to have seven or eight things going on and never have any success with any of them. Once you get comfortable with your main endeavor, feel free to start focusing on other ideas as well.

What I started to do was set some goals for myself to stay more focused. I told myself I could work for two hours and I could take the next fifteen minutes working on something else. Once that fifteen minutes was up, I would start working on my main business again. I found this to be very effective and helped me maintain better focus.

If you find yourself losing focus when you really need it the most, don't worry. Remember, this is normal when you work at home. Simply get back on track, write down what you need and want to accomplish with your main project. Then, you have to stick to it! Reward yourself for staying focused by taking some time working on different stuff. You'll regain your focus in no time!

Work At Home That Really Works!

I am a work at home mom who used to struggle just to get by. In my spare time I had tried or researched every work at home opportunity there was. And believe me there isn't much spare time or extra money to spend when you are working 14 hours, or more, each day just to get by!

Each time that I tried another so called opportunity, I would become discouraged and swear that I would just give up. But something inside of me just knew that there really was a better way for me to make a living and that it was possible for me to live the kind of life that I wanted.

I am so happy that I listened to my true feelings and continued searching for a "real" honest way to make a respectable living that provides the comfortable lifestyle that everyone deserves to live, and the freedom to enjoy it! It's hard for me to believe it, but I finally found a real opportunity that is everything that I wanted in a work at home job.

I'll share what I do to work at home in a moment. But first, Here are some work at home tips to help you make the most of your new dream job.

1. First set a schedule for your work time. This can be anything that works for you and will accommodate your goals. Setting a regular work schedule will really make a difference in your productivity

2. Create a work area that is pleasing and organized. I love my workspace because I can look out a window into the forest while I work. This makes working fun for me. Try to create a kind of space that is conducive to your work as well as a space that you enjoy being in.

3. Even though you enjoy your work, don't forget to take regular breaks as well as regular days off, including vacations.

4. Set short and long term goals. This will help you to keep track of your progress and prevent you from putting off important tasks.

5. Don't forget to network and socialize. Some people who work at home can miss the social interaction from an outside job. Be sure to continue to network as well as maintain your current contacts.

6. Don't allow daily distractions to prevent you from focusing on your work. Schedule your work time when you will experience the least possible distractions.

I hope that these tips will help you to a successful start in your new work at home job. I know that they have helped me to create a very successful work at home career which I enjoy sharing with others who possess the same work at home ambitions as myself.

Why Ecommerce Business Is a Good Home Based Business?

Ecommerce hosting usually means an On Line interface between your products and your possible buyers of your products. A shopping cart system displays your items along with price. On line buyer navigate your site, understand your offer, and compare your offer. Once she decides to buy, she will just buy using a shopping cart with integrated credit card interface. This credit card interface is the most important interface and it needs to secure one.

An ecommerce site is a simple and cheapest way to sell your products to your customers. If you compare the costs with setting up a physical store front with ecommerce website- cost efficiency of ecommerce business will be clear top you. There is no cost of location, overhead, store etc. E-Commerce opportunities on the Internet are very high. Ecommerce transactions in the United States of America are projected to hit $200 billion in 2006. Canadian consumers spent $3.8 billion online in 2004 and are expected to rise to $6 billion in 2006. Hence ecommerce hosting can be good home-based business.

Ecommerce Hosting – starting Point

Ecommerce hosting requires displaying of products, navigation and adding them to your virtual shopping cart which then automatically calculates total amount payable including discount, if any. An On line interface to accept payment

Ecommerce hosting requires an excellent back end mechanism. Security of transaction, tractability of transaction and speed are paramount importance for any on line business specially ecommerce. There are two kinds of ecommerce hosting. 'Supplied ecommerce hosting' where you need to prepare your site but the entire necessary tool are available. You can have these types of hosting in 'Go daddy'. 'Hosted ecommerce' where every thing is ready, you need to concentrate to build your business only. Site Build It by Ken Evoy is an example of this category.

Different costs to be considered to set up ecommerce business

You need to buy a domain name and a web host for hosting your service. As per our business plan, suitable shopping cart software needs to be purchased. The software should support processing master, visa credit cards, different debit cards and pay pal account. System should be flexible to identify returning customer and able to change credit card and address details for old customers. Customer should feel comfortable in using the software and a context sensitive help menu is essential. System should support discount for bulk purchase and local or international taxation.

If you want to do any special customization, you need to hire developer. Normally a good developer will charge you USD 50/ hour. Any custom specific development is good for your business. The next cost involves setting up a process of receiving credit card payments on-line. To save cost, you better set up a Pay pal account. Pay pal costs 2.9% + $0.30 USD per transaction. Set up a merchant account is costlier than Pay pal.

You need to promote your On Line Store using Ad word, creating mini sites, creating a large opts in list and joint venture with other companies. Quality is most important for your success in ecommerce business hence test your site thoroughly and professional.

How To Evaluate That Home-Based Business

There is no more job security with today’s big business. Huge lay-offs have recently hit some of the big name corporate giants in America. Major pension funds are reducing benefits. Day care is expensive and people are tired and disgusted with a long, expensive commute away from their family. Many are fed up with large companies wringing higher profits out of reduced employee benefits. With the cost of gas and time away from home, second “jobs” are less appealing these days. A part-time business from home, however, is appealing.

Here are 5 question areas that Mr. Bley suggests you need to research to find the business that is right for you:

1.) Business or Hobby: The first question is one you have to ask yourself. Everything else is based upon your answer to this question. Are you serious about building your own home-based business, or do you just want a hobby or a lottery ticket? Make sure that you answer this honestly to yourself, because your business success will be determined by this mindset. You don’t necessarily have to work your business 8, 12 or 18 hours per day to succeed. You can work it 10-15 hours a week and make an extra $1,000-$1,500/ month; enough to make a big difference. The key, however, is that you have got to commit to some scheduled time to a business. You will have to work. Are you motivated? Don’t expect to make a million dollars while you sleep. Make sure you understand why you want to get involved in a home-based business and stay focused on your “why”. For a hobby, who cares; pick it up and play with it whenever you are in the mood. There are very few people in the world today that get paid for doing nothing so get over it.

2.) The Products: This is the foundation of your business and the key to all your income. Is the product real or is it just a concept or gimmick? How long has it been on the market? Does the product provide a benefit to purchasers? Is there a market and demand for the product? Does product do what is claimed? Is it certified by independent third parties with appropriate credentials? Are the products manufactured by the franchisor, or is design and manufacture out of their control? Is product high quality and priced fairly? You should be a user of your own product. If you aren’t prepared to invest in your own product, how can you expect your customers to buy from you?

3.) The Marketing Plan: Your personal value system should be compatible with the business plan and tactics or strategies used to market the product or service. Is this a real business, with a real product, or is it merely a stacked pyramid scheme? Is this a sign-up club? Building your business by recruiting a Team of serious partners is the most efficient way to grow your business. Have you got the temperament to undertake this effort? Do you really understand how you get paid? Can company provide audited accountants statement verifying historic payout schedules to existing dealers?

4.) The Training, Support and Partners: Will you be trained by the company? What will this training consist of? Is it thorough and effective? Is this included in your registration fee? How long has company been in existence? What is their reputation in the marketplace? Does it have internet BBB certification? A lot of this information can be obtained by a Google or Yahoo search. If you are familiar with the internet you know that you have to sift through a lot of blogs, bulletin boards and false information posted by malcontents or people with an axe to grind, so be methodical with your research. It is easy to accuse and very time consuming to vindicate. Try researching the backgrounds and history of the named principal partners or corporate executives?

5.) The Investment Cost: How much does it cost to get set up? What is the franchise fee, or dealer registration fee, and what do you get for that? There are very few businesses out there (of any value) that have a zero cost entry fee. Is there a quality website available to you at a reasonable cost? Make sure you understand exactly what you are buying. Do you have to buy inventory, and how much? Some companies require monthly purchases to remain an active, vested, dealer. What does that mean? Ask. In most businesses you have to invest some money to be able to make money.

There are probably many other questions that occur to you, but these are some of the most important ones to get you started. Enter the evaluation process with your eyes wide open to avoid expensive surprises or disappointment. Mr. Bley suggests that you do your homework, make your decision and take action. Remember that nothing happens until you take action.

Home Business Buzz: In Business For Your Kids, And With Them!

Many moms (and dads!) get involved in a Network Marketing business so they can spend more time with their kids and then find that the business is taking away more time then it’s giving back. Being WAHM’s (Work At Home Moms) we sometimes get so focused on the goal of making it work we forget that the goal is to free up our time so we are free to do the fun things like get to the soccer games, school events and all the things busy working moms don’t have time for.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

If you find that your business is taking too much time away from your most important reason for doing the business then take some time to think about how you can get your kids involved in your business.

Getting them involved will do at least three things:

- Allow you to spend more time together, which is really the goal, right?
- Teach your child the value of being an entrepreneur.
- Boost self-confidence and teach the importance of working for things you really desire.

Getting the kids involved doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some ideas:

- If you do craft shows or fairs, let the kids come along. They will have tons of fun and often your kids will not be afraid to really let people know what everything is about and ask if they want to buy something!

- Let them do up your mailings. Putting on stamps and labels and folding papers into envelopes are easy things for kids to do.

- If you have great products then let your kids know about them, and how they work. My son loves having a look at what new candles we have and he also likes to hand out a free votive to people he knows to help promote the products.

The important thing to remember here is this is your business and your life. Network Marketing allows you incredible control over how you run your business and involving the kids is a fantastic way to work the business around you and your values!

The Free Survey For Cash Craze - Is It Worth It?

The online survey phenomenon has been sweeping the Internet for a while now, offering anyone the opportunity to earn easy extra cash with no risk. But are they worth your time? Can you really earn cash by simply giving your opinion? Yes, you certainly can!

If you have never filled out an online survey before, the process is very simple. You visit a website with a product or service that requires general opinions. You fill out a basic online survey and in return they pay you cash, a very simple and effective system.

If you have ever reached this stage, you will know that to earn good money taking online surveys you need to let the World know you are available. The more sites that know you are available, the more surveys you will get offered. The more surveys you complete, the more you will earn.

A large number of websites now exist that act as a portal for anyone prepared to take online surveys. They each have a database of thousands of companies who are desperate for ordinary people like you and me to help them improve their products. To gain access to these sites, you are usually required to pay, either a one off fee or by monthly membership.

More recently a few companies have decided to raise the bar by offering this service for free. This gives anyone the opportunity to earn money on the Internet without it costing anything. Surely there’s a catch I hear you say? Not at all, many actually improve on the paid services by offering free gifts and fantastic incentives for those devoted to the cause.

So if you are prepared to put in the effort to earn some extra cash on the Internet, there can be no easier way than taking online surveys. Now that you have the opportunity to do this for free, there really isn’t anything stopping you telling all your friends that you earn cash online.

Who Wants to Work From Home

Who hasn’t heard of all of the home based work at home promises of making money for very little work? If you’re like me, you probably have tried many of them, only to have spent your hard earned money on work at home programs that produced very little, if any results.

However, I knew there are millions of people making an excellent income from the comforts of their homes, and I was determined to be one of them. Since there are so many people are doing it, I knew I could too.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to NOT have to wake up to a blaring alarm clock in the morning, rush out the door, drop you kids off at daycare, and drive through rush hour traffic to get to your low paying job and a less than cheerful boss?

It is estimated more than 50 million Americans have home based businesses and that number is expected to double by the year 2010. It is much more possible than you think to have your own home based business. There are many excellent programs that will put an an incredible income into your own pocket such as: affiliate programs, making your own informational products, selling on ebay, dropshipping and so many more. Many of these programs have very little start up costs and the rewards are enormous.

Like so many of us, I was sick and tired of working for someone else and making them money instead of myself. I wanted to be a stay at home mom and watch my kids grow up instead of paying the high expense of day can and have them raised by a babysitter.

When I would come home from work, there was homework to do with the kids, dinner to make, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning the house, baseball games, you name it. Forget about having a social life or time to enjoy my husband. Who had the time? No wonder I was always so worn out and underwhelmed.

That's how I used to feel until I started my home based business. I wouldn't trade my life now for anything. I have time to enjoy my family and do the things I like, and I'm making much more now than I ever did at my job.

If you would like to improve the quality of your life and your family's, don't be afraid to try new things. If I had been, I would not be enjoying my life as I do today. If you've thought about working for yourself, jump on in. The water’s fine.

Obtaining Success as A Work at Home Mom

I used to think that "work from home" internet opportunities were all a scam. I had heard of some that really were and plus it just sounded too good to be true. I went to college and graduate school, and got a great job in the workforce like most of the other people I knew....then I had children. At first I stayed home with my daughter, but pretty soon we needed money, so I began searching for a part-time job. I searched through hundreds of newspaper ads, websites, etc. Finally I found a decent job working about 15 hours a week. The pay was decent, it was the hours I wanted, it all sounded good...then reality began to set in.

My first task was to find a babysitter. No problem I thought, there are tons of great daycares around my house. Wrong! There may have been plenty, but almost every single one of them was full. I finally managed to find one that would take my daughter, but only if she was walking eating table foods, and off the bottle....and it would cost $145 for three days a week!? Although I was making almost three times minimum wage, I ended up profiting about $25 a week after I paid the daycare and for the gas in my van! Not only that, but I was constantly stressed out trying to keep the house clean, work, get everything packed and ready for the next day, etc. At that point I was willing to try anything...even "work form home" internet opportunities.

When I first sat down and began researching all of the different opportunities, I felt completely overwhelmed. There seemed to be thousands and thousands of opportunities, all of them claiming that THEY were the best way to make money online. I didn't even know where to start. As I began sorting through them, I came to the conclusion that they could be broken down into several categories: Envelope stuffing, assembly or craft work, chain letters, medical billing, affiliate programs, sales (ebay, etc.), and online investing. While there can be scams in any of these categories, there can also be success.

The key is to find something that you are interested in and are good at, find jobs in that area, and research them thoroughly before you jump right in. If you are able to find your niche, your income potential is limitless. I have been working from home for over a year now, and it was the best decision I ever made. I play with my kids most of the day and work when they are taking their naps or in bed for the night. Our whole family is happier and less stressed and I am doing so well that we are looking to buy a bigger house!

The Pros and Cons of Starting Your Own Business

Most of us would love the independence of owning our own business doing what we have a passion for, and I’m sure we all dream of the perceived riches it would bring us!

Those are of course two very valid points, but along with that comes a huge increase in responsibility, and of course new skills to learn – and that’s just for starters.

Here are some of the pros and cons of taking the leap to being your own boss:

Flexibility
Pro: You call the shots, so you get to decide how to spend your time – for example, if you’re a mom and you need to fetch and carry kids, no problem and nobody to answer to; and of course you can take as much leave as and when you want to.
Con: It’s easy to fall into a trap of not spending enough time doing your job. You need to be exceptionally disciplined to make sure you’re putting in what you expect to get out.

Money
Pro: You get to keep all the profits of your hard work, not just a set paycheck at the end of every month. If you work hard and do well, you can really generate an income for yourself that far surpasses a salaried worker.
Con: If you decide to slack off for a while, your income does the same. Also, your local “receiver of revenue” (or IRS) is going to want you to share what you’ve worked so hard to earn, and of course you will now be responsible for all the company bills you never had to worry about when you had a boss who did all of that.

Power
Pro: Yes, you have it – you are in total control and make all the decisions.
Con: You take the heat (literally) when you make the wrong decisions.

Doing what you love
Pro: I can honestly say that this is such a joy – to wake up in the morning and really be excited about your job! You know it backwards, you love doing it, you love the environment you’re working in – what more could you ask for?
Con: You’ll have to learn a lot of other skills, some of which may not be your forte at all, because running your own business means you need to know all aspects of it: sales, marketing, buying, production, finance, accounting, research, trends, design, human resources… etc.

Recognition
Pro: You can really make a name for yourself if you have a great product at a great price with great service to boot.
Con: If you get it wrong, it could all go terribly pear shaped and your reputation will be at risk, which would also make it difficult to re-enter the job market if you need to.

So yes – owning your own business can be exceptionally rewarding and profitable, but you also need to be aware of the potential pitfalls. Do your due diligence before getting started, which will take some time but be well worth it. And make sure you have enough money… always over-estimate what it’s going to cost you, and have enough saved to tide you over for at least six months.
