Making Money From Home: 5 Keys to Consider Before Your Start

Many people are looking for ways to supplement their income. With debts increasing at an alarming rate it is not surprising. The thought of working from home certainly does have a tremendous appeal. However there are a few things we need to consider before we make that choice.

1. Do I have the discipline to do this? This is a huge question. When working at home there are a lot of distractions. Not all of them will be bad. It is easy to "take a short break" to look at a TV program or make a short personal call. This short break can last for hours. If you are not a disciplined person, this is not for you.

2. Do I have the room? Depending on what you are doing, you may need a certain amount of space to work. This space needs to be set aside only for what you are working on. While the thought of growing your empire from the kitchen table does sound wonderful, it will not be if you have to put up your work for the evening meal. Not a good idea.

3. Do I have the tools. Does your business require a computer? What about a dedicated phone line? Make a list of all the materials you need to complete your business. Think it through from start to finish. You don't want to be in the middle of your work and find out that you forgot something that you need to finish.

4. Do I have the time? By the time that you pick the kids up from school, make dinner, eat and clean up, will you have time to do your business? Set out a schedule and plan how long each of these tasks will take. It will not always work that way, but you will see if you really have enough time. If you only get to spend one hour of "real work" on your business, will that be enough?

5. Do I have the money? To do your business, there may be a cost for materials, supplies, equipment and ect. Sit down a write a list of how much it will cost to produce and sell your product. Also, sit down and figure out how soon you will get paid.

If this is a product that you make and sell yourself, it may be immediate. If you have to sell someone elses' product and wait for a check, you need to know if you can be without money for that period of time.

Working does have a lot of benefits. But it is not for everyone. In the beginning, if this is money that the family needs to survive, it may be better to get a part-time job. It takes time for any business to make a profit. Whatever you decision, I wish you the best. You will succeed. Got Credit Power-Empower Your Life!
